The eye area is one, if not the, biggest influencer in the perception of a person’s age. Eye Surgery Q & A

What is blepharoplasty?

Diminished skin elasticity, just another unwanted byproduct of the natural aging process, along with gravity’s constant pull, can lead to an excess of loose skin both under the eyes and on the upper eyelids. This loose excess skin, in turn results in wrinkles and fat bulges (both under the eye and on the upper eyelids). Fortunately, all of these issues can be corrected with blepharoplasty, also called eyelift surgery, performed by Dr. Pastorek on the skin below the eye, the upper eyelids, or both. During blepharoplasty, incisions are designed to be placed as inconspicuous as possible. Eyelid surgery is an outpatient procedure performed with a local anesthetic and IV sedation to ensure each patient’s comfort. While eyelid surgery won’t eliminate dark circles under the eyes, crow’s feet or other facial wrinkles, it may, and often is, performed at the same time with other procedures that can.

What is a brow lift?

A brow lift, also known as a forehead lift, is another outpatient procedure that is also performed with the use of a local anesthesia and IV sedation. Brow lift is a surgical procedure designed to lift the eyebrows into a more elevated position. A downward drift of the brows is common as one ages. Brow lifting can be done with incisions in the back of the hairline, at the hairline, or internally with incisions in the natural eyelid crease. The internal brow lift is favored because it allows exact positioning of the brow above the eye socket bone. It prevents over elevating of the eye brows into a “surprised” look.

What is a double eyelid surgery?

Double eyelid surgery is a surgical procedure, often referred to as East Asian blepharoplasty, in which a supratarsal epicanthic fold is created in the upper eyelid of patients who lack that crease.
