Miserable About Melasma? Clear + Brilliant® Perméa Can Help

Jun 01, 2025

If you’re dealing with melasma, getting your skin clear doesn’t have to mean invasive procedures or taking medication on an ongoing basis. Instead, you can turn to a gentle but effective laser-based facial called Clear + Brilliant® Perméa.

With melasma, you get patches of spots of skin that are darker than is normal for you. You might want to cover those areas with makeup, but as the weather gets hotter here in the Northeast, that can be uncomfortable and even messy.

Fortunately, you can get a clear complexion without needing to turn to foundation or concealer that you might sweat off.

At our offices on Manhattan’s Upper East Side in New York City and in Madison, Connecticut, Dr. Norman J. Pastorek, Janice Pastorek, and our team offer a targeted solution for melasma. With Clear + Brilliant® Perméa, we leverage laser technology to gently but effectively clear those dark spots from your skin.

Understanding melasma and how to treat it

Melasma is a condition that causes darker-than-normal patches of skin. That skin might look brown or grayish. Either way, because it’s different from your normal complexion, it can be bothersome.

Even more annoyingly, melasma most commonly develops on highly visible areas like your:

  • Cheeks
  • Chin
  • Forehead
  • Nose
  • Upper lip

Melasma can stem from a range of causes, from genetics to sun exposure to hormonal changes. That’s why women commonly experience this skin condition during pregnancy or when starting new hormonal birth control.

Fortunately, no matter what’s causing those darker areas of skin, we can address it with Clear + Brilliant Perméa.

How Clear + Brilliant Perméa works for melasma

The Clear + Brilliant laser works on your skin by targeting the pigmented areas. It encourages your skin to make new, non-darkened skin cells there, helping to fade those patches.

We can use the Clear + Brilliant laser in two different wavelengths. Perméa is the gentler of the two, helping to clear your melasma without damaging your skin. You might have some mild redness afterward, but you don’t need to worry about any downtime with this treatment.

The only aftercare instruction is to minimize sun exposure after your appointment. If you do go out into the sun, try to wear a hat and sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 30.

Since sun can worsen melasma and even make it come back, it’s best to continue protecting your face as much as possible after your Clear + Brilliant Perméa laser therapy.

To most effectively clear your melasma, we tailor a treatment plan for you. That usually means getting a series of treatments (three or four) that are spaced about a month apart. You should start to see improvement during the week after your first appointment, and those results should continue to improve with time.

Don’t let melasma keep you from enjoying your summer. To explore a personalized Clear + Brilliant Perméa treatment plan, call either of our offices or book your appointment online to set up a consultation today.
