Dermal Fillers? Botox? Both? Find Out Which Treatment Is Right for You

The days of wrinkles and aging going hand in hand are long over. Today, thanks to the wide variety of cosmetic injectables from which you can choose, you have seemingly countless options to smooth your skin, restore your facial contours, and look as young as you feel.

But it can feel daunting to navigate the variety of options available today. How do you know which will work best for your unique skin, delivering the results you want without leaving you looking plastic or overfilled?

At our office in Manhattan’s Upper East Side, Dr. Norman J. Pastorek, our cosmetic injectable specialist Janice Pastorek, BSN, RN, and our team of aesthetic experts are available to consult with you. With our extensive expertise, we help you find the right cosmetic injectable — or combination of injectables — to help you reach your goals.

To help you get started, let’s take a quick look at two of the leading cosmetic injectable categories: Botox® and dermal fillers

Botox to smooth dynamic wrinkles

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a specific brand of cosmetic injectable containing botulinum toxin. Other injectables with this active ingredient include Xeomin® and Dysport®. All three are available at our office.

These injectables work by delivering a very small amount of botulinum toxin to the muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles on your face. These are the wrinkles that form as a result of recurring facial expressions, such as forehead furrows, crow’s feet, and frown lines between your brows. By applying a minute amount of botulinum toxin to the muscle underneath that wrinkle, we can freeze the muscle in place. This relaxes the skin over it, smoothing the wrinkle.

If you have dynamic wrinkles that make you look stern, tired, or sad, Botox or a similar injectable can help you turn back the clock and reclaim a younger-looking appearance.

Dermal fillers to combat volume loss

Dynamic wrinkles aren’t the only facial change that occurs with time. As you age, your face also loses volume as your skin’s production of collagen slows. This can result in:

Fortunately, we offer dermal fillers to restore volume wherever your face needs it. At our office, you can choose from leading dermal fillers, including Radiesse® and Belotero Balance®, and many products in the Juvéderm® and Restylane® lines of fillers.

Talk with Janice Pastorek about the changes you want to reverse in your face, and she can recommend the right dermal filler for you.

Using Botox and dermal fillers together

If you have both dynamic wrinkles and reduced facial volume, you don’t have to choose to address only one or the other. Janice Pastorek can combine Botox with the right dermal fillers to reverse the signs of aging across your entire face, helping you look years younger in a single appointment.
