Combining Facial Plastic Surgery & Nonsurgical Treatments for Enhanced Results

There is a common misconception that surgical procedures and minimally invasive treatments are mutually exclusive—and that the nonsurgical options are only used when surgery is not wanted or required. However, in my years of practice, I have found that the best results are provided when the surgical plan is complemented by professionally administered skin treatments and a personalized at-home skincare routine.

While your individual treatment plan will be designed with thoughtful consideration after a personal consultation, I can tell you about some of our favorite surgical and nonsurgical combinations that provide beautiful results. We hope you will enjoy these insights into our comprehensive approach to aesthetic medicine.

Laser Treatments Bring Facelift Results to Life

Facelift surgery is still one of the most popular anti-aging cosmetic procedures as it reduces sagging and loose skin in the mid-to-lower face, redefines the jawline, and corrects deep lines on the face and neck. The result is a smoother, lifted appearance; most patients will look approximately ten years younger.

Once a patient has healed from their facelift, we like to follow up with laser skin treatments to provide an overall healthy glow. Our state-of-the-art medical lasers address a variety of skin concerns and provide dramatic, long-lasting renewal. A combination laser treatment can reduce the appearance of sun damage, fine lines, and surface texture issues which cannot be treated surgically.

While laser skin treatment can complement almost any facial procedure, it is a particularly excellent way to maintain or enhance the results of a facelift. It truly brings facelift results to life and will also make a facelift less detectable: the skin’s apparent age will now be better matched to the patient’s renewed facial contours.

Injectables Treat Expression-Based Wrinkles & Provide Youthful Volume

Injectables are the method of choice for reducing expression-based wrinkles, restoring lost volume, and improving facial proportions. Because facelift surgery lifts and tightens but does not prevent future wrinkles or replace lost subcutaneous fat, many patients benefit from the additional treatment with these products.

Neurotoxins, such as BOTOX®, XEOMIN®, or Dysport®, temporarily halt expression-based wrinkles in the upper face, making them a wonderful option for facelift and browlift patients. Dermal filler injections like Juvéderm® VOLUMA® replenish skin volume with nourishing hyaluronic acid, providing more improved cheek and mid-face contours. For superficial wrinkles, Belotero Balance is a favorable dermal filler injection because its molecular size fits seamlessly into fine lines. Reducing hollowness in the lower face is another way to make a facelift less detectable: giving a patient appropriately youthful volume through the face brings the whole look together beautifully.

Design a Routine to Maintain & Enhance Your Results

While aesthetic facial plastic surgery performed by an experienced, board certified facial plastic surgeon offers long-lasting results, nothing can halt the progression of time and your face will continue aging.

To temper continued aging, start with a top-notch skincare regimen including products that are selected for your needs. Secondly, plan ahead with your physician’s aesthetician. Consulting with them approximately every six months will allow you to together plan renewing in-office procedures at appropriate intervals. They will likely recommend non-surgical options such as an occasional non-ablative laser surface treatment or renewal of your injectable treatments. A plan like this will extend the benefits of your surgical procedure and keep you glowing.

When working with a skincare expert under doctor supervision, you will also have access to physician-only, medical-grade skincare products. You will receive expert advice based on years of clinical experience and be far more likely to purchase the right products, get the right treatments, and see visible and continuing benefits.

Finding the Right Surgical & Skincare Team

I have found that the best results come from working with a team that includes both a facial plastic surgeon and a skincare expert. I work closely with my wife and renowned skincare professional, Janice Pastorek, R.N., B.S.N., to create a cohesive aesthetic treatment plan tailored to each patient. We believe that enhancing facial plastic surgery results with minimally invasive treatments is an excellent way to achieve beautiful, long-lasting results.

If you are in the greater New York City area, we would love to discuss your options during a personalized consultation and skin evaluation. Together, we will evaluate your facial structure and the quality of your skin to determine which surgical and nonsurgical treatments are the best fit for your needs.
